by David Andrew Laws
Potentially catastrophic solar flares threaten Earth and possibly all life upon it. Fortunately, scientist Lou Ion is on the case. Unfortunately, so is everyone else. Lou's attempts to understand and stop the impending catastrophe gradually draw in his wife Anne, his absent-minded sister-in-law Susan, several scientists, a park ranger, military personnel, two aliens, a pair of teenagers, Lou's long-lost twin brother, a mysterious Creature and eventually the titular Killer Man from the Sun.
What begins as a stereotypical sci-fi emergency becomes progressively more absurd as conspiracies, aliens, military intervention, monsters and increasingly improbable revelations pile on top of one another.
Even The Announcer, who initially seems to exist outside the story as its narrator, can't remain safely removed from the action. The fourth wall becomes increasingly porous as the characters, narrator and theatrical machinery itself become part of the joke.
Somehow, amid all this insanity, our heroes must still save Earth.
Probably.
